OBITUARY:JAMES R LANDIS, NEW KENSINGTON
James Robert Landis, 80, of 537 Clyde St. , New Kensington, died yesterday (Sept 11, 1985) at 6:40pm in Presbyterian-University Hospital, Pittsburgh after a short illness.Born Aug 13, 1905 in Heilwood, Indiana Co, he was a son of the late Victor and Teressa Landis, and was an Alle-Kiski resident most of his life.Before retiring in 1941, he was a mining engineer and foreman of the Renton Coal Mine, where he began work in 1932. After 1941, he was employed by the PA Compensation and Rating Bureau of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Insurance Co for the mining industry. He retired in 1970.Mr Landis was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Tyrian Lodge of F&AM, and Dennis A Reeser Royal Arch, all of New Kensington. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Syria Temple, both of Pittsburgh.He enjoyed hunting and fishing.Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth Imm Malone Landis; four sons, James I of Houston TX, Robert E of New Kensington, Ernest R of Lower Burrell and David A of Springdale; two daughters, Mrs Andrew (Margaret) Smego of Natrona Heights, and Mrs David (Lois) Krumpe of Saxonburg; a stepdaughter, Mrs Robert (Joan) Kunkle of New Kensington; 26 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs James (Fannie) Thornton of Mentcle, and Mrs Martin(Esther) Sojak of Johnstown.His first wife, Crendia Roberts Landis died Jan 5, 1964. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Anita Foresi, Genevieve and Violet, and a brother, Anthony Landis.-----------------------------------------Friends may call tonite from 7-9 and tomorrow from 2-4 and 7-9 in the Ross G Walker Funeral Home, Ltd.,217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10 am by his pastor, the Rev. Mark Landfried. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Masonic services will be held tomorrow evening at 7:30pm in the funeral home.
